I was quite excited to be a member of Scotiabank as I only heard good things about it, yet after being explained by a representative for 2 hours about a plan I didn’t even want in the first place, I ended up with something called Passport Debit Card and VISA. I was mainly extremely excited because I was told repeatedly that I will be receiving a 10,000-15,000 scene point balance added if I was able to maintain a certain amount in my savings account for a period of 3 months.

I made sure to ask the representative multiple times that this is in fact true because it seemed a little unreal to be receiving this many points for simply signing up for a debit card. She assured multiple times me that I will receive my points after 90 days even though it’s not a Scene Card but is a Passport Card and so I waited patiently for 3 months. The time has passed and it is now day 93 and so I have been on the phone back and forth with representitives from Scotia and Scene shuffling me back and forth with some claiming that said policy was never assigned to my account and some claiming that it doesn’t even exist and some bringing up policies I’ve never even heard or been told before. I came to Scotiabank with my best intentions at heart and really enjoyed your service for these past months but I was really upset to find out that the person who was handling my personal information and setting up my account wasn’t even telling me correct information.

I was also really upset at how much I was shuffled back and forth between Scotia and Scene, at least 4 times, without getting an answer. I was really hoping this problem would get resolved but I am being told on the phone that it could take at least a few weeks to even hear back from them about the issue and I am really stating to lose my faith that anything will get resolved...

Too many instances of errors and incompetence

Where do I start? - There's all the extra hoops we had to go through to close my parents' account when they passed away. All the other banks closed it off without delay. - They were given instructions by my brother to transfer a sizable amount of money from one Scotiabank account to another. It ended up in my account at another bank!?!? - There was a hefty charge on my Visa credit card account that I did not recognize and reported it to them immediately. They said they would close the account and send a new card and investigate the charge. 3 months later and after numerous calls to check on what's going on, they still have not resolve the charge. In the meantime, the interest on the credit card is still racking up and they took money from my chequing account to cover the debt!?!?! A similar thing happened with my TD credit card at around the same time and it was resolved in a week. - Most branches are still open only during my work hours and call waiting time for the Fraud Dept. is always longer than 20 minutes. Slow, incompetent, lack of customer service or care....The only reason I'm still using this bank is because it was my parents' bank ages ago and it seems like they are stuck in that age! I will be transferring my money out soon. It's not good for my blood to be boiling and my hair to be pulled out so often ***

Change in terms

April 2019. Got a message to log into my account for a 'Message'. I go there and there is a scrolling text box with a button to accept the 'new terms and 'agreements'. Its 28 pages long. The text box is about 10 lines long. So I call customer service to ask what was changed. The service rep goes away. I am hold for about 13 minutes and the call gets disconnected. I think this is a really cheap and sleazy way to get new terms agreement to. Obviously the idea is for someone to just click accept. I really hate banks. I see this site does the same thing. Puts the terms and agreements in a little text box.

SB the biggest *** up I've ever had to deal with.

I don't even know were to begin! I use to deal with Credit Union for years. Best service I've ever had. However when I moved to Cambodia I decided to change to a bigger bank and opened a SB acc. What a nightmare I haven't had access to my online banking for over 2 years and my bank card is no longer in their system so I have no access to an ATM. In order to get money I have to do a wire transfer and the Bank charges me a fee of $ 40.00 CND and here in Cambodia $ 20.00 USD ($ 60.00) Then I have to call the bank long distance charge because the 1-800 # don’t work from Cambodia. If the person I call is not available to talk to, well I’m *** out of luck. ( no $$$) Then email them and wait for them to give a time to call. I'm 12 hrs difference. Then lately they told me they can send me a new card. I was very happy and exited. So they sent me a card, canceled it just to send me another card that doesn't work at the ATM. I,ve had to deal with the card centre and they have no clue what they are doing. The president has no clue either. She told me she will send me a new card with a pin number and 2 weeks later told me she couldn't do it. After 2 years of not having access to online banking, at least I had online banking. So the bank told me to transfer funds via SB and Western Union. So I did a transfer and wanted to do another the next day but for some reason I have no access to my online banking again. and I still haven't received my $ it's still in process (12 days now) So now I have to spend $2,000.00 for airline ticket to go to Canada and close my account. PS There's a lot more to tell. But, you get the picture. Stay away from this bank. All you are going to get is BS, stress and no service. Cheers from Cambodia.

Scotiabank

544 Bayfield St, Barrie, ON L4M 4Z9

Very disappointed with Scotiabank.

Applied for a refinance on our mortgage and everything was going well until Scotiabank said it wanted an appraisal done on our house. I told Scotiabank no problem but they would have to pay as CIBC and TD said they would pay for the appraisal if my wife and I moved our mortgage over to one of them and refinanced.

Scotiabank said they would only pay an appraisal for new accounts coming to their institution not for current customers?

We have been loyal customer to Scotiabank for 25 years with a excellent credit rating and hold many many investments and of course a mortgage with them. I informed our financial advisor that we would move everything which includes Investments, RRSPS, Mortgage, etc. to another financial institution if they refused to pay the appraisal fee and their response was there was nothing they could do for us.

From a business stand point of view this does not make any sense what so ever. Scotiabank is willing to lose good long standing customers and thousands upon thousands of dollars in interest as well as all investments and holdings over paying a few hundred dollars?

Many business people I talked to just shook their heads over this.

Needless to say we took our business to TD Bank and TD said there was no need for an appraisal on our house because the refinance we were asking for is so low that that the value of our house was much greater.

I have come to realize after all this that Scotiabank does not care about loyalty from its customers and that your only a number to them and nothing else.

Very disappointed and taken back about this whole situation and a more detailed letter will be sent to Scotiabanks head office over this incident and how we were treated and the disrespect we were shown.

Having said that do shop around as you will be amazed on what other financial Institutions will do to have your business. Maybe that is a point Scotiabank should take under consideration instead of acting like a bully and losing good loyal financially set customers to other competitors.

PS: The financial advisor we had was nice but very Inexperienced and kept going back and forth to his office and to the managers office to get our questions answered.

If you send them a letter, cut out the crybaby part and stick to the facts. You notice, of course, that the bank provides the appraiser ; I'd bet they didn't let you pick your own.

Paying for it is just half of the equation because you still have to pass the equity vs. loan equation (you'd better have at least a huge portion of equity). That's where they like to choke you. Think - why would they be helpful when your #1 goal is cutting the amount of money you send them each month ?

You'll probably need to go elsewhere and start fresh. The "advisor" may or may not be inexperienced - but realize - the bank tailors its behavior upon the customer profile meaning different rules for everyone.

Cry baby part ...really guy ...let’s see my house is worth close to 600k, we only owe 100k and we want to combine the 100 k with another 100k ...total 200 k mortgage ...we have just over 200 k in investments... I think we our very well established!

We have had a mortgage longer than this financial advisor has been alive ..lol He even said he is brand new and LEARNING STILL. We kind of figured that out when he kept going to the managers office to get questions answered for us ....So to your question we have a lot of EQUITY! TD accepted us within a day with no appraisal required.. hmm?

25 years with Scotiabank with no complaints until now and as far as I am concerned you are nothing but a number to them and I will be getting this message out to everyone to see!

Cry baby ..lol Why do you think they call this Pissed Consumer? Now you get back to your little desk at Scotia-bank...Truth hurts ...Here is a box of Kleenex for you...lol

There it is....The loser's lament....The only thing an idiot, posting on PC is left with after someone tells them the truth. "You must work for (insert company)" or some variation of this idiotic meme.

Just to let you know, you are a number....No one cares how long you've been with a company. Those days have been over for nearly a decade.

It's about the money you can bring in with the least amount of drama. OK....This is the part where you say....NM...You've already said earlier.

Guest

Don't be silly ; you always have to pay for the appraisal if you're trying to refinance. I've had that done twice recently.

One guy was way too low, the other somewhat high ; apparently the first bank (Huntington with whom we had our original construction loan) no longer wanted our business - the second was hungry, cut our interest rate drastically, saved us a ton of money in the long run ... but we had to pay for the appraisals. That's the way it goes, they pretend like these guys are independent contractors but they are surgically joined at the waist to the financial institution, doing their bidding.

Your pal, account #304-611-****-6743. (that's my bank name, yes, you are a number).

Scotiabank Complaint and President Office

Hello, I am not sure if many of had this experience ,but scotiabank does not care about its customers and their complaint process is the worst. I have been dealing with their presidents office and a person name :

Vanessa Regnier

Manager - Office of the President

Scotiabank - Executive Offices

e-mail: mail.president@***.com

Telephone: (416) 933-**** or (877) 700-****

Fax: (416) 933-**** or (877) 700-****

This person never calls back or ignores your e-mails and concerns. Finally they tell you to go to the ombudsman. I would recommend all the people to avoid scotiabak. Has not been a good experience.

Am having a similar issue at the moment with scotiabank and it seems that their employees are covering up on their mistakes

Don't give up. There are many companies who will keep doing what they are doing thinking that they are always in the right when they are not.

Just having this forum will hurt the company profits which is the sole reason for the company. Money is the name of the game when we all look at the big picture

Can this bank get anything done right the first time?!?!?

Another horrible experience with customer service: I gave them instructions for transferring a credit from my closed visa account to my chequing account. Sounds simple enough but NO....not with this bank. They promised to get it done within 3 days. 1 week later, had to call them back to find out what happened. After being transferred 4x to different departments, found out that the credit transfer was denied because two requests were submitted. Huh? Another proof that clowns are running the bank!

Scotiabank employees involved in criminal political harassment

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I had an interview with the legal services department of scotiabank at 44 king street west and was victimized as a british columbian by a head office that only speaks ontarian social and political issues. The lawyers in the group insulted my parents (veterans, community leaders) and the sitting british columbian liberal government by focusing exclusively on questions concerning ontarian politics. Then, two days ago, the problem happened again - Ward Fitzpatrick - an employee of scotiabank, physically assaulted me at a store - where I had been ambushed by two disabled criminal 'activists' - again because of ontario local political issues - so Ward attacks air force officer on behalf of dirty rob and doug ford affordable housing trailer trash? I have an nhl team owner on my resume and a canadian network president. I know that in the noise of toronto it was really confusing to tell the difference between legal support staff and lazy canadian riff raff begging for tax dollar handouts - but in christy clark and whacky bennett country, scotiabank better change its tune. There are no fans in bc for dirty toronto politics about selfish toronto LOCAL political problems. Trailer trash toronto and its political leaders - OWE THE UNITED WAY OF THE LOWER MAINLAND an apology for all these dirty "activists" responding to their televisions. TV doesn't give kids in my community a head start in the middle class. It's about time ontario got the message.

Got charged $1400 in NSF fees because the assistant branch manager locked my account while i was in the hospital, in another province, then turned around and told me i couldnt unlock my account until i got home. So all of my payments and cheques for bills bounced. Contacted the branch manager who then told me she will not reverse any NSF fees, she doesnt want to involve herself and has asked the assistant manager to which he said no reversals.

Horrible Customer Service

This started in December of 2018, my Mother passed away her banking was done at the same Branch. I had taken money out of my account to help with the Funeral cost, and was told that Scotia would cover it, and cover it I mean her account had not been closed and they were to transfer the money back into my account seeing I had bills coming up. Someone dropped the ball, her account was closed and needless to say the money was not transferred. This now started a snowball effect on my account, the automatic with drawls from my Insurances (3 separate ones) all came back NSF, on top of it I got dinged with $148 because of the NSF one of the Insurance was for $4. 58 and I paid nearly $50 and they abruptly cancelled within a week. When I went to my Branch to talk to the Financial Advisor that was handling this whole thing, she couldn't give me the time or day it was like your bothering me go away. She did reiterate I'll get back to you when I know, emails and phone calls to her I never did hear back from her. Lets now continue the snowball effect, I had my wife call all the Insurance Companies to explain the circumstances and guess what they were fantastic about the whole situation unlike Scotia. Here comes the harassment I fell behind in my Line of Credit now I'm getting at least 5 calls a day for one payment that's been made and another $125. I actually had some person call me from 3rd party which I'm not familiar with the first thing he asked was my banking info and my wife told him were to go. Lets fast forward to the 24th of Jan, I sold my Mothers car the buyer gave me a Bank Draft I deposited my account, I had a payment coming out for my vehicle on the 24th. On the morning of the 25th Scotia calls, not even been 24 hrs I am once again being harassed demanding payment. The draft is on hold because the buyers Bank hasn't confirmed. I went into my Branch after work on the 25th, one of many Managers did try to help with the draft so my payment could be process in hindsight they could have let the payment go for my Vehicle seeing I have a fair amount sitting in my account just waiting to be confirmed. One more thing, Customer Service at this Branch is absolutely appalling the turn around I've noticed with Employees is hilarious to say the least. I am now in the process of moving to another Banking Institution if anyone ever asks me is Scotia a good Bank to deal with my answer would be absolutely if you like being ignored, calls and emails never answered Customer Service or lack there of. This might not sound like a legit complaint, trying dealing with a death of Family member and then the *** at Scotia.
