I am a new Permanent Resident and saw that Scotiabank had a credit card program for new PRs with no Canadian credit history required. I applied and received a letter saying I was "conditionally approved" pending income verification and "further review" of my application.

What a nonsensical way of saying I might or might not be approved. On the same letter was a web page URL where it said I could submit my supporting documents. Tried to go to the web page (https://appls.scotiabank.com/documents) and it wouldn't load. Tried on a different browser, tried on a different computer, tried on my phone.

Still couldn't get to the page. Tried Googling for "scotiabank submit supporting documents" and nothing came up. Contacted customer service and they were no help. I was about ready to give up and either snail mail the documents or go to a Staples to fax them when I got another letter in the mail saying my application was denied, out of the blue, with no reason stated.

Whole thing was a complete waste of time and energy.

To date I have no idea how anyone gets approved for a credit card with Scotiabank. BTW, I make $106,000 CAD/year, have net worth of $683,000 CAD, and have US credit in the 700s.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution.
