Verified Reviewer |- - Lost debit card; blocked; can't access online banking (in Germany).
- - Request new card; restore online access; remote ID verification options.
Hello,
I am writing regarding my Scotiabank debit card and online banking access.
I lost my physical debit card some time ago, and as a result the card is currently blocked.
Because the card is blocked, I am unable to access my online banking, as I have also forgotten my password and the standard recovery process requires phone verification linked to the card.
I already contacted Scotiabank by phone using the international number, however the issue could not be resolved during the call. I was informed that because the card is blocked and I am unable to complete phone verification, changes to my account could not be made over the
phone.
At the moment, I am located outside of Canada (in Germany) and I am unable to visit a Scotiabank branch in person.
What I am requesting:
Assistance with issuing a new debit card (new card number) to replace the lost and blocked card
Help with restoring access to my online banking, including resetting my password
Guidance on remote identity verification options available for clients located outside Canada
I am ready to provide all required identification and personal details (passport, SIN, address, etc.) through a secure verification process if needed.
Please advise on how this matter can be resolved remotely.
Thank you for your assistance.
Kind regards,
Daryna Kutova

Verified ReviewerMortgage refinancing
- - Poor service delayed the signing paper by a month; as a 20-year Scotia customer, I am disappointed.
- - I switched banks to save on a lower rate.
Poor customer service delayed my paper to sign by one month. I signed with another bank in order to save the low rate. There are too many bureaucracies; even though I am a customer of Scotia for 20 years, it is very disappointing.
- Good regular banking
- Mortgage service
- Customer service
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: Have another bank ready for the serious financial operations
Scotia Bank cannot be trusted with our money
- - Local Jamaica purchases go to Jamaican Dollar; US purchases to US account; Aug 20 Fresh Approach posted to US, not Jamaica; support was dismissive.
I am extremely dissatisfied with Scotiabank. For months, all my local purchases in Jamaica were correctly deducted from my Jamaican Dollar account and all online purchases from my U.S.
account, exactly as I requested.
However, on August 20th, a purchase at Fresh Approach supermarket was wrongly deducted from my U.S. account instead of my Jamaican Dollar account. This has never happened before, even at the same supermarket. When I contacted the Contact Centre, the representative gave me a dismissive explanation that the U.S.
account is primary for both local and international, which makes no sense, if that were true, then all my local transactions should have been deducted from the U.S. account, not just this one.
The purchase was made on Wednesday, August 20th. However, the money was deducted from my U.S. account on Thursday, August 21st.
I am very frustrated and disappointed.
This inconsistency shows that something was changed on my account without my request or consent, and no proper explanation was provided. Your representatives are unhelpful and unknowledgeable, leaving me with no resolution.
Scotiabank has proven unreliable, and I am seriously considering moving my business elsewhere.
User's recommendation: My only recommendation to future customers: RUN. Do not walk, RUN away from Scotiabank. Save yourself the stress, the confusion, and the blatant disregard for customers

Verified ReviewerPATHETIC ATROCIOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE !!!
- - Long-time Scotiabank client (35 years) with 3 mortgages; service has declined.
- - Unintended email; four transfers to Fraud; login/debit card disabled.
Transfer all your financial service products & loans out of Scotiabank. CIBC is also terrible.
White people are being mistreated and denied banking services. Scotiabank and CIBC small business loan officers are mostly South Asian/ Indian.
Indian small loans officers assist other Indian customers with securing loans for franchises like Tim Hortons, Subway, Pizza Pizza, McDonalds, Harveys, etc. AVOID SCOTIABANK & CIBC !
The recent issue I experienced was receiving an unintended email from Scotiabank, and when I attempted to contact Scotiabank customer service, they transferred me 4 times to finally reach their Fraud department, which, after authenticating me, decided to disable my login account and debit card. Almost 2 hours were wasted on the phone with Scotiabank only for them to create more problems as opposed to resolving my inquiry. Their Fraud department agent couldn't speak English clearly, and the background sounded like a duct cleaning scam call center. Scotiabank very likely uses agents in India or similar offshore call centers for customer service and the fraud department.
This is utterly disturbing knowing my SIN number and personal information on file at Scotiabank can be accessed by individuals outside of Canada! I've ultimately decided, given the continuous terrible service with them, to close all my accounts at Scotiabank and sincerely tell them to go *** themselves!
I am so done with this garbage bank - Scotiabank. I truly hope other customers leave this *** institution and hit them where it hurts most - losing customers!
- Terrible service and lack of accountability for their mistakes
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: AVOID SCOTIABANK !

Verified ReviewerDoes not allow Interact Auto Deposit to Mobile phone
- - Interac deposits work for mobile and email.
- - Scotiabank supports auto deposits only to email.
- - Customer service auto-replied and closed the case.
Interac allows banks to set up auto deposit if e-transfers sent to both your mobile phone number and email address.
Sadly, Scotiabank has decided to only all auto deposits of interacts sent to their customers' email - not mobile phone.
There is also no explanation of this fact in there online help - it is silent on their decision. I called customer service and asked that a complaint/ suggestion be filed on my behalf which they did.
Within 1 minute I received a non human AI auto reply email saying that the matter is in line with their policies, and that my case was closed. Really? No way to treat a customer's feedback.
This is brutal - terrible customer service.
Every other major Cdn bank allows this for obvious reasons. But not Scotia.
Scotia, please get your act together, get with the times & be more competitive!

Verified Reviewer |Crap Service, Run Around, and FAKE FRAUD
- - Account on hold with a fraud alert; cannot use or raise limits.
- - Must visit home branch with 3 IDs to lift hold; fraud details not explained.
I called to increase my etransfer limit to pay outstanding debt on my rent- they made me go through 45 min of verification and holds just to tell me there's a hold and fraud alert on my account so I can no longer use my account or increase my limit until I go into my home branch with 3 forms of valid ID!!
Not to mention it's a holiday and banks are closed until tomorrow at 9:30 and I have to be in another city for a doctors appointment at 9am - they close at 4pm and I won't be back in town until 5
So I can't get gas, pay for my appointment or anything until Wednesday so now I either have to cancel and wait another 6 months for an appointment or ask to borrow money from someone to get through the day and go on Wednesday!
They couldn't even tell me what the fraud was on my account!! Like how can they shut down my account without even telling me the cause!
I'm withdrawing my money and closing my account tomorrow! This is the worst service I've ever had!
Do not bank with Scotiabank if you can help it!!!
- Crappy service
- Account shutdowns without notice
- No explanation
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: Don't bank here - they will pull crap over you and shut your account down without notice

Verified ReviewerDoes not allow Scotia Business VISA use in Apple Pay
- - Personal Scotia Visa Debit with Apple Pay on iPhone was easy.
- - Business/Commercial Visa Debit Cards aren’t Apple Pay supported.
Happily, it was easy to set up/use my Scotia Visa Debit Card on my iPhone via Apple Pay. No surprise - it should.
Sadly, Scotiabank made the poor business decision to NOT allow the sane to be true for their Commercial/Business Visa Debit Cards.
Shocking & surprising. Their main competitor banks do allow this - I contacted Apple and they said "Scotiabank decided NOT to offer this service to their business/commercial customers.
This brutal & frustrating - very poor customer service.

Verified ReviewerZero customer service and unimaginable incompetence
- - There are long hold times to reach support.
- - Banking errors take weeks to fix; transactions are canceled arbitrarily with large payments.
Over several decades, frequent typical experiences have been making me wait almost an hour on hold to be told that they arbitrarily cancelled (instead of putting a temporary security hold) on transactions, making large payments of twice the amount that I had authorized thus emptying my account, taking up to a month to correct their many banking errors, virtually always having to wait at least 15-30 minutes to speak to someone, blatantly lying about the cost of services, etc. ad nauseaum. I've long invested a lot of money, but never with Scotiabank since it's by far the most incompetent and customer-hostile financial institution I've ever dealt with.
User's recommendation: Literally ANY financial institution is better than Scotiabank

- - Went to 115 King st in Waterloo branch; teller told me to slow down.
- - Spoke to the manager; plan to switch banks with investments.
Went to 115 King st in Waterloo branch. The teller told me to slow down when I was telling her what corp.
account I wanted the cheques deposited in . So I explained their are serveral accounts, then she told me she did not like my tone.
At that point I asked for my cheques back and spoke to the manager. I told the manager in front of her that she had a bad attitude as she was rolling her eyes and the manager told me I can not talk to her staff like that.
I am looking to change banks and bring my considerable investments with me
User's recommendation: This bank is badly manage. I do not go to the bank to make friends, I just want simple tasks done professionally and without drama.

We are all lowly peasants to Scotiabank
- - They kept asking for the same information after I provided it.
- - Even a tiny issue, like a one-line cut off, caused resubmission requests.
Trying to apply for something, they asked for information, I provided. And then they kept asking for the same information over and over and over again.
If they could just check their emails or at least OPEN the documents, they would know that they have it already. Not to mention them being overly picky about the stuff that you send them (for example if you send them something with ONE line cut off, they will ask you to send it again, but that line contains ZERO information and is not relevant at all). They are also so rude and it's like they're more "superior" than you or something.
Literally gives me the feeling that they look down on you. Can't say I've experienced any of this at any other of the three banks I've been to in the past.
User's recommendation: Try your luck with this bank. Hope you get someone nicer.
Close account
- - Account closed after 29 years due to poor service.
- - Access denied while the app was open; security questions; double payments; poor communication.
The most pathetic customer service youll ever experience they close my account after 29 years as a result of swearing to a customer service representative because they continue to deny me access to my own account saying I wasnt getting the security questions correct when I was I had my app open. Ive had the account for 29 years.
They withdrew money for my account for a bill that was already paid And I demanded that they refund me because as a result I paid twice then I receive a letter in mail saying their closing my account pathetic organization do not go with them.
Theres so many more reasonable banks that are available that wont treat you like this. Its very difficult to communicate with them half the time I cant even understand what the people were saying because they cant articulate their speech.
User's recommendation: Do not get an account with them

- - • Vehicle loan with reduced payments was arranged; no lateness notices were received; the vehicle was repossessed and the cosigner wasn't contacted.
Have a vehicle loan through them. Circumstances changed and we made arrangements for lower payments and always going fine.
Never had any letters or phone calls or emails from them regarding anything being late. Would contact them every month just to touch base but then now they suddenly send someone to repo the vehicle. They never even bothered to contact the cosigner to catch up with any arrears.
Nice way to treat Canadians that have made you bastards so rich. Believe me though, you are not untouchable and that's not what you do to families

I used to recommend people to go to the branch I banked with for 39 years. When they closed the branch and transferred me to another branch the lack of customer service and lack of respect to return calls and emails began the slide in desire to bank there.
Now 5 years later and after a recent experience with a non professional employee I am going to do what I should have done sooner, switch to another bank or credit union as they understand customer experience. By the way the switch will include moving all assets out of Scotia Wealth Management, they don’t deserve any of my business.
Done with BNS Oh and nice divisive ad campaigns they are rolling out! Gotta go, divesting my holding in BNS stocks next.
Your review is useless for any consumer reading it. You provided no specifics about this email nor what is meant by “unintended”. Not to mention the implied urgency that required a two hour call.
This is a banking related matter involving a great deal of savings. Of course details concerning the matter will not be disclosed.
Being on hold and transferred multiple times over a 2 hour period has nothing to do with urgency but rather Scotiabank's incompetent offshore call centre service.
